About me

santiago 196

Welcome to my blog. My name is Lyn Nunn and I live in Australia. I like to travel the world and research my family history. I am often lucky enough to combine the two.

I have been researching my family tree for around 20 years. Many of my ancestors have taken me all over the world to find out about them. It has been an interesting and challenging journey, sometimes quite frustrating and, at other times, very rewarding. I admire immensely the initiative many of them had to go and explore opportunities for a different life, sometimes staying in a variety of places before they finally settled. Others I admire for their ability to make the best of new lands when they came not of their own accord and others for making the most of what they had where they were.

I particularly love the words of my Great, Great, Grandmother, Emily (Shaw) Beavan that were published in her book “Sketches and Tales Illustrative of life in the Backwoods of New Brunswick, North America,” George Routledge, London 1845.

“Son of the Isles! Talk not to me,
Of the old world’s pride and luxury!
Tho’ gilded bower and fancy cot,
Grace not each wild concession lot;
Tho’ rude our hut, and coarse our cheer,
The wealth the world can give is here.”

This blog is about my adventures researching my family history, treasures I have been given or found and things I have learnt or wonder about along the the way.

    Thank you for sharing your details in order to see your blog. I am at an impasse on both sides of my family from late 18th century, Onward and upward!
